(Transliterations are ways of spelling a word or name in a language other than the original.)
There are a few variations to the spelling of the Mazan name. The most widely used is the direct transliteration from the Yiddish pronunciation. However, it is possible that "Mason" was used when entering, or already in the United States.
Mazans spread, or fled, to the New World around the beginning of the 20th century. They mainly went to either Buenos Aires, Argentina or to Lincoln, Nebraska in the United States. From Lincoln, they spread to Dallas, Texas. Dina's grandfather, Aharon, brought his wife, Dvora Paris and his first son, Enrique in the 1920s.
